Planning for a Healthy Child?

Depression during pregnancy

Depression is common among pregnant women as well as after the childbirth, which causes a woman not only to lose sexual and other interests, besides feeling irritability and fatigue most of the time. The depression is more likely to occur if woman feels isolated and inadequate support from her husband and other members of her family. During the period of pregnancy, the mother should pay visits to the doctor for regular check up between six and eight weeks and also after delivery of the child, which gives the mother the opportunity to discuss any problem faced by her.

The following natural remedies are suggested:

• Sunlight: Body needs sunlight. The lack of sunlight can disturb the production of key hormones and brain chemicals triggering depression.

• Exercise: It is must to reduce depression. An hour a day of exercise for a week is universal prescription for depressed people.

• Light music: Music lifts depression.

Overweight

If you have started gaining weight during pregnancy, your tummy has put on extra flesh because of your skin and muscles must have grown to hold the constant weight of baby in womb. Do not worry, the muscles gradually start tighten up again some time after the childbirth. Do not forget to undertake gentle exercises during pregnancy after consulting your doctor. Breastfeeding helps the stomach to get back to shape as it helps the uterus to contract and within two months after the delivery, the uterus takes non-pregnant size.

How to plan for a healthy child?

Remember, child’s health does not start after the birth, even before the baby is conceived in the mother’s womb. Planning of a child must be considered in three factors: before conception, during conception and after conception during the period of pregnancy. Oral contraceptives have harmful side effects and are not advised. Start treatment under acupressure therapy at least three months prior to conceiving in the following ways:

• The couple should take a glass of charged water (health drink) daily.

• The female partner must have three regular menses before conceiving to have a healthy fully developed uterus.

• A daily massage on both sides of wrists for five minutes by female partner proves beneficial for a healthy pregnancy.

To prepare charged water (health drink), mix 300 gm. of Amla powder to 100 gm. ginger powder. Swallow one teaspoonful of this powder with water in the morning and evening. Another way is to add two teaspoonful of above powder of Amla and ginger in four glasses of water. Use fresh Amla and ginger (if available). Boil the mixture, till it is reduced to three glasses. Filter the liquid and add to it salt or honey to your taste. Amla is concentrated form of vitamin C. It has 16 times more vitamin C than lemon and helps to provide protection to the body against cold and increases digestion power. Health drink is beneficial especially for the convalescing people, old, growing children and the expectant mothers.

Acupressure Therapy

It is exceptionally beneficial for pregnant women. Nature has provided the body with proper regulators and protectors.
